These are some burnings I have done over the years for family and friends. As stated elsewhere, I haven't engaged in pyrography for profit in the past, so all of these works were requested or conceived with specific individuals in mind. One of the things I love about woodburning is that projects can be customized and personalized.
Frog Bride and Groom: I explained to my brother that I wanted to make a woodburning for his wife as she had hinted a couple of times that she'd like one. He told me my sister-in-law really liked frogs. I told him that was great...I knew I had a couple of tree frog patterns in my various woodburning books. He hesitated, and said, "Well, actually, I was thinking it would be really cool if you could do a bride and groom frog with our names and wedding date." UGH!! Thank goodness for the Internet! I found a picture of a wedding topper I used to design this one.
Magazine Rack: One of my brothers bought my mother an unfinished pine magazine rack for Christmas one year, with the idea that I would take it and woodburn something on it. Four years later, it was returned to my mother as a "Christmas stocking," hold her gifts. I drew the angel from a picture I saw on the Internet, and used royalty-free clipart for the lily-of-the-vallies on the ends. My mother loves angels, and the quote is a favorite of mine.
Doll Chair: My partner's mother bought an unfinished chair for her granddaughter and asked me to woodburn her initials on it. I decided to take it a step...or two...further.
Praying Hands: I drew the design for this plaque, which I made for my grandparents. It hung in their living room for years. Both of my grandparents passed away a couple of years ago, and my father returned this to me. I keep it in my studio as a reminder of my grandparents...and that life is, indeed, fragile.
Tissue Box: One of my nearest and dearest friends in the world is a teacher...who cries at the drop of a hat. Thus, it is always good for her to have tissues at hand. When I saw some blank tissue box covers, I came up with the idea to make one for her.
Housewarming Gift: A friend of mine who is an amazing artist designed the following plaque for a mutual friend of ours. My friend gets credit for the color with oil pencils. We gave it to our friend as a housewarming gift.
